TV or Projector: Which Should You Rent for Your Event?
Room brightness and audience size decide this, not price. Here is how to pick in about two minutes.
Start with the light in the room
This is the single biggest factor. A TV produces its own light, so it stays punchy in a bright hotel function room, a glass-walled office, or an atrium at midday. A projector paints light onto a surface, so ambient light washes the image out.
If you cannot dim the room or draw curtains, a TV will almost always look better than a projector of the same budget. If you can control the light, a projector gives you a far larger image for the same money.
Then match the size to the audience
A rough rule that works well in Singapore function rooms: the furthest viewer should sit no more than about six times the screen height away for presentation slides.

Other practical differences
- ▸Setup time: a TV on a stand is up in minutes; a projector needs throw distance, focus, and keystone alignment.
- ▸Cabling: projectors usually need a longer HDMI run and a power point away from the seating.
- ▸Content: fine spreadsheet text reads better on a TV; video and photography look more cinematic projected.
- ▸Backup: it is easy to carry a spare TV; a spare projector plus screen is a bigger commitment.
Quick answer
Bright room, small-to-medium audience, detailed slides: rent a TV. Dimmable room, larger audience, video-led content: rent a projector and screen. Big audience or daylight: rent an LED wall.
